The Marco Island Center for the Arts introduces Cuban born tenor Anibal Cruz, a remarkable singer with perfect pitch and an easy smile, who performs salsa flavored songs, Latin favorites and even Frank Sinatra selections.
Anibal Cruz worked for 14 years as a gynecologist in Cuba. He had loved music since he was a child. The economic situation in Cuba forced him to start singing again.
Cruz landed a job singing in a Cuban tourist resort. This led him to a long-term contract at a hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Over the next seven years, he was able to bring his family to Mexico, including his parents.
With all the family finally together, Cruz proposed that they all immigrate to America. He said, “We came here looking for a better future.” Cruz and his wife now reside in Miami. His son, Anibal Cruz III, is a classically trained pianist. The musical tradition in the family continues, now in America.
The concert is Tuesday, June 20 from 5:30–7 PM in the Art Center. For tickets ($25) call 239-394-4221 or visit marcoislandart.org/musicalinterludes.
