It is with great concern that I communicate to you my distress in seeing our city government take, what I would consider, a deficient course of action in addressing the COVD-19 virus threat. One would expect our local government to adopt similar restrictions to those imposed by neighboring communities, the county, the state and the Federal government, to help contain and restrict the spread of the COVID-19 virus. I would say that given some of the unique defining characteristics of our community both demographically, geographically and topographically, that we should take additional more aggressive steps that go beyond the most basic level of response. I urge all of you to once again review the latest updated CDC guidelines presented yesterday March 16th, 2020, by the President of the United States.
I can understand the immense strain this is going to put on our community financially. I know that many business owners will be devastatingly affected by this virus and the steps we must take to help stem the tide and protect our community as a whole. I can only imagine the immense pressure that our City government must be under from our local businesses who are struggling to stay open and survive. Unfortunately difficult, and sometimes un-popular, yet decisive action must be taken to protect our community, who given our demographics, are especially susceptible to the effects of this threat.
The sacrifices we make today will have a profound impact on our future. Again, I urge you to please take a more aggressive policy to close down social gatherings, venues that support such and limit the entry of non-full-time residents to Marco Island while we prepare.
Thank you for your service and your attention to this matter. I wish all of you health, safety and wisdom during these challenging times.
