Marco Island residents are known for their generosity towards community causes. Over the next few weeks, three fundraising events will be held locally for three island residents who are in need of our help and support.
City employee and resident Jim Hodgdon and his family have experienced a family medical emergency. Recently, Jim’s wife Kris Hodgdon suffered a brain aneurysm. She was taken by ambulance to NCH, and then airlifted to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where she underwent surgery. Her condition is critical, and Jim has been by her side.
On Saturday, August 8 from 2 PM-8 PM at the Marco Island Brewery, a fundraiser for the Hodgdon family will be held. The event is hosted by the Professional Firefighters of Marco Island Local 2887. The cost will be a donation at the door of $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids. The event will have a 50-50 raffle, drink specials and a complimentary buffet. There will also be a fire truck on display for the kids.
Island resident Jada Shigley is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. On Sunday, August 16 at 5 PM, CJ’s on the Bay is opening their doors for a fundraising event to help Jada with her medical expenses.
There is a $25 donation for the event. There will be live music by Johnny Fusco, happy hour cash bar, and delicious food. Live and silent auction items are valued at over $14,000, including Sea World tickets, a two night stay at the Sea World Orlando Resort, gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, and other items too numerous to mention. RSVP to event organizers Marva Sutt (239) 682-3515 or Debra Shanahan (239) 248-7419, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Marco Island Police Officer Paul Ashby’s wife Amy was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Her intensive treatment is extremely costly. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family: www.gofundme.com/ashby-sj.
Paul’s fellow officers, Clayton Smith, Frank Steiger, George Guyer and Josh Ferris are organizing an event at the Marco Island Brewery on September 13, 2015 to benefit the Ashby family. They are planning a silent auction for the event. Please mark your calendars and we will bring you additional information about the event in upcoming issues.
