Community loses a long time resident
Beloved Katherine “Kappy” Kirk, born March 10, 1917 passed on October 16, 2010. Pioneer and third generation southwest Floridian, Kappy married the late Arthur “Bud” Kirk in 1941. Kappy was raised and lived in the fishing community of Caxambas until 1949. At that time the home which Kappy lived in until her death was moved to Goodland. That historic home was built after the 1910 hurricane. The wood used was heart of Southern Pine. Kappy was a member of the Island’s first families and active in the Marco Island Historical Society.
Kappy served as postmaster in Goodland from 1950 to 1984. During her retirement she remained a loyal and loving member within the Goodland community, participating in the many village activities. She is survived by her children Tommie Dee Moss, Damas Kirk and Kare DeMartino, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Kappy Kirk is remembered with love.
