Collier County to Celebrate America Recycles Day

The Collier County Solid Waste Management Department is partnering with multiple agencies and vendors to provide residents with two opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle their unwanted items.

On Tuesday, November 15, America Recycles Day, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., the county and Goodwill at Towne Centre (3759 Tamiami Tr., E.) will host a recycling round-up. Goodwill will accept computers and other electronics for recycling, along with clothing, shoes, books, and other donations. Goodwill Secure Shred will collect documents for free, secure and confidential document destruction.

In addition, the Department of Environmental Protection South District will collect batteries, cell phones and chargers, and plastic grocery bags. They will also be giving away free passes to the beautiful Florida state parks to everyone who recycles items during the event.

Collier County’s Solid Waste Management Department will be on hand to assist with the collection of household hazardous materials such as paints, oils, cleaners and pesticides, while answering recycling and waste disposal questions for Collier County residents.

On Saturday, November 19from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the Naples Recycling Drop-off Center (2640 Enterprise Ave., West) will host a recycling round-up for recyclables, household hazardous chemicals, and electronics. The recycling center accepts items such as motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze, propane tanks, paint, batteries, ink cartridges, fluorescent bulbs, and mercury-containing devices. Electronics, plastics, and medical sharps will also be accepted from residential customers at no charge.

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida will accept clothing, shoes, and books for resale and recycling. Adera On-Site Security Shredding will provide free paper shredding for residents. Drug Free Collier’s Operation Medicine Cabinet will be collecting expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal. Residents will also be able to recycle up to four tires (19.5” or smaller), for free.

America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States. The annual America Recycles Day celebration is a national program of Keep America Beautiful.
