Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala and Chairman of Collier County Planning Commission Mark Strain presented to the East Naples Merchants Association (ENMA) at its monthly network meeting. The annual presentation updated members about business and residential economic development in East Naples and surrounding areas.
Collier County covers 2,305 square miles and has a current population of 375,467. Of that figure, Naples’ population is 20,195, and the City of Marco Island’s is 17,036. By 2020, Collier County’s population is estimated to climb to 382,465.
About 77.44 percent of the land in Collier County is protected for conservation and preservation; 13.41 percent is zoned entitled lands; and 9.16 percent is undeveloped or unentitled land.
Collier County development is limited geographically and is carefully tracked.
“Anybody can see these updates, numbers, and trends for 2019,” Strain stated. “Businesses are all popping up, and it has been one of the biggest things that occurred over the last 12 to 15 months in the county as a whole, as well as redevelopment.”
There will be new residential development near Davis Boulevard, Rattlesnake Hammock, and on the land near Collier Boulevard before the intersection at US 41. This includes the completion of the Inspira at Lely apartment complex, single- and multi-family home communities, and two churches. Residents can also look forward to new hotels, grocery stores, and other commercial stores.
Strain informed the group that Florida Southwestern University announced a $52 million expansion over five years to improve its Collier campus. With the expansion, by 2023 the school will be able to offer more programs.
