In March, the Community Foundation of Collier County together with the Marco Island Area Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA of South Collier Marco YMCA created a Relief Fund for unemployed Marco Island workers and those in need living on Marco Island and Goodland. The mission of this fund is to collect donations for those locals affected by COVID-19.
The three organizations, together with Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, reviewed applications for assistance and distributed over $4800 to needy families requesting assistance with rent, electricity and emergency home repairs. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis to distribute donated funds. “Our community cares for those who work and live in it. The generosity is amazing,” says one of the recipients who wishes to be anonymous. “Every little bit helps. I now can pay my electrical bill for this month.”
Applications can be found on the YMCA of South Collier-Marco YMCA website. For more information about the Collier Comes Together-Marco Island, and to donate, visit www.cfccollier-comes-together-corona-virusrelief, or call the YMCA of South Collier-Marco YMCA at 239-394-9622.
Online donations should be marked specifically for “Marco Island.” Please continue to help those in desperate need due to COVID-19.
