The Art League at the Marco Island Center for the Arts is celebrating a first while also holding its annual Mini Masters collection this year.
On December 13th, the Art League will hold its reception for “Expressing Art Thru Clay;” a clay exhibition which will feature works from the Clay Guild held at the Center for the Arts. The reception is free to the public and begins at 5:30PM. The exhibit will be on display beginning December 5th and will run through December 29th. This will be the first gallery show held by The Clay Guild of The Art League.
The Clay Guild was started by a number of members of the Art League interested in working with clay. Members raised money to supply their studio at the League with a kiln, clay wheels, slab rollers and other state-of-the-art equipment for working with the malleable material. Those interested in working in the clay studio at the Art League need only to become a member, pay annual dues, and the studio will be available to them.

The Mini Masters series is a calling to all local artists to create a 5”x7” work using whatever type of artistic medium they prefer. Art ranges from canvas to paper to ceramics. These works will also be on display beginning December 5th in the Le Petit Gallery at the Center for the Arts. Art enthusiasts may enter their bids for the auction on clipboards hung next to the 5”x7” works. Bids start at $25. Some local artists to feature their work include Tara O’Neill, Inez Hudson and JoAnn Sanborn, all of the Artist Colony at the Esplanade. Nancy Norman, a local clay and ceramic artist will also be entering a unique piece along with many other local artists.
The silent auction will be held from 5:30 – 7:30PM on the 13th. These exciting exhibits are only the beginning of what is to be an excellent year of art and entertainment at The Art League at the Marco Island Center for the Arts.
