Starting with the excitement of Thanksgiving and all throughout December this is an exciting time of the year for many Marco residents, their families and friends. However, that great excitement is not shared by all in the Greater Marco area, as some families struggle just putting a meal on the table for their children and themselves.
Not all of the despair is due to an individual’s own doing. A fire, the loss of a job or a devasting illness may all be a portion of a reason one needs a helping hand.
The Our Daily Bread Food Pantry is one of those safety nets that has been created by the Marco Island community to assist those when a need arises.
In cooperation with many of the local religious congregations, in addition to the assistance of various organizations, businesses, fraternal groups and individuals, the group has been able to fill a need in and around our community.
At this year’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Celebration, the Our Daily Bread food truck will be stationed in the parking lot and will be accepting donations of non-perishable and canned goods to stock their shelves to help those in need. Monetary donations are also accepted by the group if that is more convenient for those who wish to donate.
The truck will be well lit and decorated for the Christmas holidays. It will be manned by volunteers to accept your donations and located in the parking lot of Veterans Community Park near the restroom facilities.
One such group that is preparing to make a large donation of goods is the Island Country Club’s “F Troop.” This group of golfers have been a major contributor to many of the island charities and needs. They were also instrumental in the purchasing of the new community Christmas trees which will be lit on Saturday, December 7 at the Veterans Community Park and at Founders Park at the entrance to the island on Collier Boulevard.
