Ask folks about what makes Christmas on Marco Island so special and chances are they will say the tree lighting, boat parade or street parade. These events, and more, are brought to the island by the volunteers who call themselves Christmas Island Style.
Since 1987, Christmas Island Style has been organizing family friendly Christmas events on the island. In addition to the parades and tree lighting, they bring Santa Claus to the Shops of Marco and ice skating to the Veterans Community Park.
In 2004, Steve “Stef” Stefanides took the lead of this group of volunteers behind the scenes. Stef, along with the other Christmas Island Style committee members, are already hard at work to bring the numerous Christmas Island Style activities to Marco.
Funding for these events is provided by donations and the annual golf tournament.
This year the 8th Annual Golf Tournament will take place on October 3. Foursomes are available at $120 per person, and include breakfast and lunch, greens fee, golf cart and gift bag. Hole sponsorships are still available for $100. The tournament has prizes for first, second and third place golfers, as well as longest drive, closest to the pin, over 65 flight, all female flight and mixed foursome flight. Again this year there is a coveted $10,000 hole-in-one prize.
