The day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Island Style kicked off the Christmas season with a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Islanders of all ages began lining up at 5:30 PM in front of the Salon Botanica for the anticipated arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Along the sidewalks of the Shops of Marco, excitement and speculation of how the couple would arrive and some youngsters anxiously reciting their wish lists were heard.

Seasoned Santa’s lap veteran, Riley Hausauer came prepared with a detailed vision board-fashioned list to ensure that Santa knew exactly what she wanted. “She’s been working on her list for a couple weeks now. She wanted to make sure she didn’t leave anything out,” explains Riley’s dad.

Shortly after 6 PM, the guests of honor arrived. This year, Mrs. Claus opted to ride in the cab of the firetruck, while Santa opted for a ride on the back of a three-wheeled motorcycle. The red carpet was rolled out for the honored guests as they entered Salon Botanica. The children filed in to have their photo op with the Clauses and read their wish lists…although some little ones were quite reluctant, even shedding a few tears.

The evening’s festivities also offered islanders a chance to get in the holiday spirit, proudly dress in festive outfits, get a Christmas tattoo, enjoy some sweet goodies, and even tour the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department ladder truck.
