With the Thanksgiving Holiday approaching, the Christmas Island Style Committee is moving into high gear as they prepare to present a number of holiday activities for the island. Shortly, the Christmas Banners will be hung along Collier Boulevard and the committee will be setting out the decorative angels along the medians on Collier Boulevard.
On Tuesday, December 1, the committee, with the assistance of the Italian American Club, Condee Cooling and Electric, LCEC and others, will be hard at work assembling the two community Christmas trees for display during the holiday season.
On Tuesday evening, December 1, the Holiday Canine Pet Parade, always a favorite for young and old alike, will be hosted by CJ’s on the Bay at the Esplanade. That event will run between 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, and will feature both festively dressed pet owners and their pets as they stroll down the red carpet for the enjoyment of other pet owners and spectators that evening. There is no entry fee to show off your favorite canine or to just enjoy the event.
On Saturday evening, December 12, the annual Christmas Boat Parade will be held. Those interested in joining in with an entry may do so by going to www.christmasislandstyle.com and downloading the application. Questions regarding that event can be answered by Gene Burson, the event coordinator, at (239) 945-1775. A map of the parade route can be found on the committee’s website. This annual event lights up the waterways around the island as boaters decorate their crafts with festive lighting for the holiday season.
Applications continue to be received for entries of stationary floats for the “Evening with Santa and Mrs. Claus” event to be held at Veterans Community Park on Saturday, December 19. This event will allow residents and guests to do a drive-through of festive holiday presentations by local organizations and groups and be greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Claus and all of the other participants in the event.
As more events are added to the schedule, they can be found on the Christmas Island Style website at www.christmasislandstyle.com.
