The Marco Island Center for the Arts announced today it will honor Jane Watt at its fundraising gala on February 28, 2016. This year’s gala theme is “Young at heART.” It will be a memorable evening of delights, dinner and auction at the Island Country Club.
In announcing the honoree, gala chair Susan Darrow said, “We are honoring Jane for all of her contributions to educating our youth. The Art Center is proud to recognize Jane as an outstanding Marco Island citizen. Honoring Jane supports the Art Center’s commitment to providing the best for the young people in our community.”
Jane Watt is the founder and chairperson of Marco Island Academy, where she has served on the board for over six years. She serves on a statewide coalition for charter schools and is a recognized speaker on charter schools. She released a book in February 2015 about her experience starting a charter school titled, “Fighting for Kids.” She has been a Marco Islander for over ten years.
As is traditional, this year’s gala will be black-tie optional, and a highlight of the Island’s social calendar. The Young at heART Gala committee has some surprises in store, and is keeping them close to the vest. But, one thing is sure, honoring Jane Watt will be an exciting part of the evening.
