Sgt. Shiner was awarded the Medal for Heroism after risking her personal safety in order to protect the lives of others. She received her medal at a special ceremony during SAR’s monthly luncheon on Friday at the Country Club of Naples.
She looked up to see a man in the garage holding a gun. She drew her gun and ordered him to drop his weapon. The man did so on the third command. Sgt. Shiner then held him at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested him.
Corrections Chief Scott Salley was also presented with the Law Enforcement Commendation Medal by SAR President Lawrence Fehrenbaker, Sr., M.D. and Dr. Edward Ferguson. Chief Salley was recognized for his dedication to the Collier County community.
Sheriff Kevin J. Rambosk wrapped up the luncheon by congratulating Sgt. Shiner and Chief Salley and speaking to the crowd about public safety within Collier County.
