The Capri Broadcaster published by the Capri Community, Inc. started in 1969. We have various copies of the newspaper starting with volume 2 issue 1 on March 1970.

In the next few issues of the Capri Then and Now you will find highlights of the publication.

The big issue at the February meeting in 1969, was a vote on a combination heating and air conditioning unit for the Community building.

It was decided to continue the monthly $2 chicken dinners as a fund raising activity to retire the mortgage. There was not enough interest to have bingo games.

Building violations were brought to the attention of the Civic Association. It was decided that all building (additions, seawalls and docks) would have to be okayed by the County Commissioners with secured building permits.

Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf were fishing on the dock at night and sighted a distress signal. There was a storm and outgoing tide when the S.O.S. was seen. The Coast Guard was alerted but could not find the boat until the Metcalf’s gave another location.

A fisherman described a fishing adventure off his dock. As he was cleaning a large catch of sheepshead. A bird he identified as a frigate bird swooped down off his roof and attacked a gull which had just grabbed a piece of fish. The performance happened five times but no one else saw this event. The unidentified fisherman called this an evil bird and he had his skeptics.

In 1970 new exercise classes were announced, bridge results were recorded as well as social events, anniversaries, birthdays, travel plans, visitors named.

Progress report on Marco Towers was noted and the first unit was to be filled by September.

NOW

Once again, the air conditioner is in the news. The Capri Association is in the process of getting a new air conditioning system. There will be three bids on the project. We nursed this old one along and it is time, said president Ted Decker.
