It is going to be a very busy February for Calusa Garden Club members. The Club meets on the second Monday of each month at 11 AM, starting with a workshop for its members. They meet at the Fellowship Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 S. Barfield Drive. For February 8th at 11 AM, the topic for the floral workshop will be “Elements of Design” presented by Lindy Kowalczyk. Members come prepared with their containers, soaked oasis, foliage and flowers, ready to be creative and inspired. At 1:15 PM, club members Connie Lowery and Jackie Purvis will continue the theme on floral design to getthe members ready for the upcoming Standard Flower Show in March. It will be an afternoon of floral creativity.
On Feb. 9th at 8:30 AM, club member Sue Oldershaw will lead a group of club members for a “gad-about” (field-trip) to the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel. They will take a tram ride to see the wildlife and a visit to a native plant nursery is also scheduled.
On February 18th at 10 AM, Calusa Garden will co-host an off-site workshop on orchids with Chris Burt, owner of Island Garden Center. Chris will discuss popular species, care, repotting, and common diseases. Geared towards the average orchidlover, this hands-on workshop is free to the public. The location of the workshop will be the Island Garden Center, 1882 San Marco Road.
Feb. 23rd is the American Cancer Society’s Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon at Bistro Soleil. Calusa Garden Club’s floral designers will be providing all the centerpieces for the tables at the luncheon, and some of these masterpieces will be raffled off.
