Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island & Friends of The Library Present a Floral Design Class

Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island, at the invitation of Friends of the Library and Marco Island Branch of Collier County Library, presented a class on holiday floral design on Wednesday, November 20th. Librarian Brenda Rasch welcomed instructors Lindy Kowalczyk and Sue Oldershaw and over 25 attendees from the community. Rasch thanked Friends of the Library for paying the costs of the materials for the design class. Each participant received a container and equipment needed to make a centerpiece, along with a candle, greens and beautiful flowers in fall colors, along with novelty accent pieces in browns and oranges.

As Kowalczyk gave design tips while Oldershaw demonstrated, the participants made their own low horizontal line designs suitable to decorate a Thanksgiving dinner table. Calusa Garden Club also sponsors a program called “Flowers in Public Places.” Club members make floral designs and deliver them to Marco Island public buildings, restaurants and offices, along with a placard that identifies Calusa Garden Club. Recently, four offices or businesses were the beneficiaries of Flowers in Public Places: Police Chief Tracy Frazzano’s office, Stonewalls Restaurant, the Marco Island Branch of Collier County Library and Caché Cleaners.
