At its March business meeting, the Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island inducted two new members. Making this meeting even more special was the garden tour at the home of Florida Master Gardener Donna Kay, which served as the horticulture workshop prior to the business meeting.
Donna Kay’s yard is a prototypical tropical garden hammock, giving visitors a true tropical “feel.” It was a tutorial on what canopy and understory plants look like in a tropical hammock. The foliage included a mix of native plants, along with a few tropical imports. This well attended garden tour was enjoyed by the more than 20 members who were present.
Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island welcomes visitors interested in their educational programs and visitors interested in membership. Membership is open to Collier County residents of five months or more who are interested in horticulture, floral design and environmental issues. Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island meets the second Monday of each month, October through March, at Wesley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 350 S. Barfield Drive, Marco Island. Business meetings begin at 12:30 PM and programs begin at 1:15 PM.
