The Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island held its monthly meeting Monday, February 9th. Following the design workshop three new members were inducted into the club by 2nd V.P. Connie Lowery and President Dale DeFeo. The inductees are Janice Engel, Diane Hughes, and Marilyn Torgow. Almost fifty members were present to enjoy the program given by designer Kathleen Hawryluk of Naples. Kathleen demonstrated how to create multi-rhythm and construction designs. All eyes were glued on her every movement of working with the plant materials. It is amazing how one minute the material is laying on a table and the next it is part of a design. Four lucky winning ticket holders went home with the designs.
Calusa will present a smallstandard flower show for the community on March 7th and 8th at the Center for the Arts. It is called “The Beautiful “Bs” of Island Living”. Not only will the members’ designs be displayed but hundreds of pieces of horticulture from their gardens will be on view.
The next meeting will present horticulturist, Craig Morell. His program is entitled, “Bridging the Generation Gap from Older Gardening Tactics to Modern Horticulture”. Please mark your calendar for 1:45PM on Monday, March 9th. All programs are at the Wesley United Methodist Church of Marco’s Fellowship Hall. A $10 donation is requested.
Save the dates March 7th, 8th and 9th to join in the events provided by the Club. Visit our web site for more information, www.calusa.org
