The Brewery at 1089 N. Collier Blvd. in the Marco Town Center Mall is their latest venture.
Son, John, living in San Diego and studying handcrafted brews, shared his excitement and the concept of opening a restaurant on Marco focusing on special brews with his father and mother. The La Cavas set the idea in motion. A location was found and The Brewery was launched.
Entertainment rocks the house from Wednesday thru Saturday but sport fans still have football and baseball on mega TVs! The Brewery carries all the sporting packages. There are 25 widescreen TVs inside and 5 more widescreen TVs have been added for outdoor dinner viewing. If it’s cold, there are heaters; if it is hot, there are fans; and if the weatherman calls for rain or wind, there are protective plastic roll flaps.
The menu offers a complete variety of lunch and dinner items including, Jamie Shea says, “a mix of nice Italian entrees.” Up and coming on the menu is the Marco Island Food Challenge Burger. The burger is free if, in 30 minutes, the 3 pound burger with a pound of tater tots is eaten. Not only is the meal free but the winner of the challenge receives a t-shirt and their picture on the restaurant wall.
The Brewery is open 7 days from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Call 239-970-0461 for more informationabout food, special brews, entertainment and sporting events.
Don McDonald, Photographer
Miami born photographer and 14-year Marco Island resident, Don McDonald, is one of a growing number of Marco Island authors. In this case, Don’s creative expertise is not by pen alone. Don said, “ I practically grew up with a camera in my hand. It was the Kodak Brownie given to me as a child that did it for me. No one escaped my lens.”
Don currently spends at least one or two days a week exploring the swamps and prairies of the Everglades, capturing the hidden beauty that most never see. He has taken over 20,000 pictures in the last few years wanting to make sure his granddaughters have a record of the unspoil beauty of the Everglades.
Because of this passion, Don created a beautiful book of photos, Reflections of the Everglades, a comprehensive look at life and beauty that covers this huge expanse of land in south Florida.
“Most Wednesdays, I drive out to the Everglades, put on my snake boots and backpack, and then head out into the swamps to spend the day photographing the wildlife, just taking in natures wonderment.
Capt. Don is a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain and holds a Masters license. He has spent most of the last 20 years guiding fishing and birding trips in the 10,000 islands of the Everglades National Park.
