R.K. Reiman Construction, Inc. has crafted a reputation for excellence during more than three decades as a custom-home builder and designer on Marco Island. But one thing the company hadn’t done with regularity was pursue the prestige associated with success in the new home competitions held annually for Collier County builders and associated professions.
That seemed like an oversight to Bill Reiman, the family owned and operated company’s vice-president and director of construction. So he decided that 2020 would be the year the business would re-assert itself in that regard and put its work up against that of its rivals in the highly competitive luxury market.
By year’s end, R.K. Reiman Construction could look back with pride at the results, after capturing four awards in two different contests for The Ocean Pearl model custom home. Located at 445 N. Barfield Drive, the four bedroom dwelling with 4,862 square feet of living space received the 2020 Merit Award as Best Overall in the Collier Building Industry Association’s Parade of Homes. The Ocean Pearl was also recognized in three categories of the CBIA Sales and Marketing Council’s Sand Dollar Awards for homes in the $2.5 million to $3,000,000 range:
- Product Design of the Year
- Best Master Bedroom Design
- Best Kitchen Design
Reiman said the company had won Sand Dollar Awards previously, in the early 2000s, for a home his father, Keith, the company’s founder and president, built on Heathwood Drive.
“I wanted to reenter this year because it had been so long since we’d entered,” he explained. “I had a lot of involvement with the model home and we sort of needed to refresh out awards so I got us entered into all the contests.”
Sand Dollar Awards are presented to member builders, developers, architects, remodelers, interior design firms, landscape architects, contractors, and marketing, sales–advertising professionals who’ve demonstrated building, design and marketing excellence in Collier County. The Parade of Homes recognizes homebuilding excellence within communities from Marco Island to Estero.
“We put a lot of work into that house,” Reiman said of the model home, which has since been sold. “It was a big team effort. It really showcased a lot of what we can do and what we’re known for. We’ve been down here for more than 25 years building and we’re known for our attention to detail and quality, and it showcased all of that.”
The Ocean Pearl also reflects a vision Reiman formed working with the company’s customers over the years.
“It was kind of all combined into one house; what everybody wanted and what appeals to them: big great rooms, big outdoor living areas, big kitchens, a lot of space, a lot of storage, a big master bedroom and so-on. That was all incorporated into it so it felt really good to win an award for something we worked so hard on.”
Also lending their talents to the project were WDG Architecture, Planning and Interiors, of Collier County; The Decorators Unlimited, of Palm Beach; and the company’s team of subcontractors.
R.K. Reiman Construction has built about 250 homes, all in Collier County and most of them located on Marco, since 1995, when Keith Reiman moved his family to the island from the Chicago area and started the company. Prior to that, in 1986, he translated a lifetime of construction industry experience into the creation of Reiman Concrete, which became one of the largest concrete companies in DuPage County, Ill. In 1989, he expanded into custom home building, eventually constructing more than 100 custom-and-model homes in metro-Chicago and winning numerous awards along the way.
Aside from Bill Reiman, the business also includes his siblings Bobby, vice president and project manager, and their sister, Jenna Popoff, who is the bookkeeper. They are joined by Max Tyler, the company’s new home sales consultant-warranty specialist.
The awards make the company “stand out even more” relative to the competition, explained Bill Reiman. “It’s a way to showcase that we are a top-quality luxury builder, that we can handle anything, that we can do anything in the custom home building world that people are looking for, and do it with the same attention to detail that we’ve always had. We’re so picky with every single house that we do and our customers will attest to that, too. There are a lot of builders out there, but not many that are as picky as us.”
