Students at Tommie Barfield Elementary got to test out the very latest in playground equipment before school ended. “The Imagination Playground Building Block equipment, is part of the STEM initiative,” said Principal Jory Westberry. “The students were instantly drawn into showing off their creativity. We had a car, a horse, mini-golf course and fittingly, the students built a version of the Marriott, complete with water fountain.” The Blocks were made possible by a donation of $5000 from the Marco Island Marriott. Rick Medwedeff, General Manager, was on hand to present the school with a check. “It’s apparent we have many architects, engineers and scientists in the making here. We are pleased we can assist the school with the building blocks. These students will have a positive impact on the community in the near future and the Marriott is excited to be a part of this initiative.” STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math and is an educational initiative focusing on expanding the teaching efforts in these core areas.
