For the 25th year, second graders from Immokalee will spend an afternoon at Hideaway Beach on Marco Island with volunteer Big Buddies. These students have earned this special day after studying and working hard for up to three years to improve their reading and math skills in Guadalupe Center’s After-school Program. Buddy Day 2017 is Monday, March 20, from 10 AM -2 PM.
Throughout the afternoon, the Buddies will rotate through fun, educational stations hosted by staff from the Marco Island YMCA, Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades National Park. Birding, nature studies and games will be enjoyed, as well as snacks and the ever-popular golf cart rides.
This day is made possible thanks to the residents of Hideaway Beach, and numerous volunteers from local communities and organizations including Verona Walk, Fiddler’s Creek, the League Club, Greater Naples Leadership and others.
Generous food and beverage contributions for the day are provided by Immokalee McDonald’s, iTech and Culligan. Each child will receive a book and stuffed animal thanks to long-time Guadalupe Center supporter Bill Laimbeer and Kids 2 Camp.
The Guadalupe Center creates endless possibilities through education in its mission to break the cycle of poverty for the children of Immokalee by providing Early Childhood Education, After-School Tutoring, and college-prep Tutor Corps Program.
