The Marco Island Charter Middle School’s Boots & Blues shindig was a kickin’ success! A success attributed to the efforts of co-chairs Maria Hayden and Deborah Hobbs. Boots, cowboy hats and flannel were the attire of the night. The event was held at the Hilton-Marco Island, which provided dinner and dessert.
The MICMS jazz band and chorus were up first to perform for the guests, followed by students Michael Distel, Elle Richardson, AJ Hobbs and Celine Schauer.
Line-dancers of all levels kicked up their boots when Betty Newman began to show just how to follow along. A band member came to help wrangle what turned into five solid rows of line dancers stretched across the floor to learn new skills. Of course, the moment the Ben Allen Band hit the stage, the dance floor stayed full.
By the end of the evening, $50,008.03 was earned for the school. Marco Patriots sponsored the event and the band. Other sponsors included Physicians Regional, Taray International and Sunshine Stitchers, Suntrust Bank, Marco Rock, Allyson and Jim Richards, Allen and Debbie Hobbs. The 50/50 was won by Suzan and Jon Busch who immediately donated the $500 back to the MICMS.
With almost 75 auction items, it is clear MICMS has many partners in the community that believe in the success of the students.
