The Marco Island Blessing of the Fleet, sponsored by Marco Island Yacht Club, is set for Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 11 AM–2 PM. Boats of all types and vessels of varied proportions are invited to attend the time-honored tradition. The Marco Island Yacht Club Bridge will be in formation as the boats pass in review, after Chaplain Richard Blauw has blessed the fleet. Spectators are welcome to come watch the ceremony and stay for a great lunch, while enjoying the sounds of the Marco Strummers.
According to Commodore Harris, “As in previous years, the boats will be grouped in three fleets, includingthe Extended Cruisers, the Day Cruisers and the Sailors.” He adds, “What’s new this year is that we are inviting local captains, skippers and crew from neighboring marinas, marine organizations and other interested individuals to join us and participate in this year’s event.” There is no charge for boats to register and participate in the event, so reserve your space early! Visitors who wish to stay for lunch after the ceremony should make lunch reservations. Lunch is available for $27 plus tax and gratuities.
