Programming offered by the City of Marco Island Parks and Rec Department just got more mobile thanks to the generosity of the Meyer family. In a discussion with Mindy Matusiak, Recreation Manager at the park, Paul Meyer learned they could use a vehicle for transporting those signed up for their programs. Paul discussed it with his family and after an exhaustive search, a 2001 15 passenger Ford Van was on its way. According to the Meyer children, “daddy is looking for a van” was the common theme in the household for some time until one was found. “I had to find a vehicle that was suitable to everyone’s needs,” said Paul, “I am very involved in Parks and Rec and am happy to be able to help. We hope this vehicle provides for everything this group needs to have.”

In an official, ‘handing over the keys’, the Meyer family gave Bryan Milk, Parks and Rec Director and Mindy the keys to the vehicle. A few hours later, Camp Mackle used the van for the first time to transport children attending Camp Mackle to Marco Players at Marco Town Center where a full dress rehearsal was being held for their Theater Camp’s production of Hair Spray. “This will be a huge benefit for Camp Mackle kids who might also like to attend one of our other enrichment camps. On Sunday, the van was used again to transport summer camp counselors to our end of season party.” According to Mindy, “The van can be used for some new off island trips, such as teen trips, where we don’t have enough signed up for a large bus. As an example, we might add a teen shopping trip to Miromar over Christmas.”

In appreciation, Bryan Milk added, “I would like to compliment the Meyer family. The gift falls within the programming realm and will help us facilitate programs. We appreciate the generosity of the Meyer family.” The van needed a few things looked at once it arrived on island. Paul wanted to be sure to thank Island Automotive for helping out with the air-conditioning repair.

The van has been nicknamed, “Big Red,” by Mindy.
