April Fools! Easter may have been over, but the theme at the Local Color Art Gallery said differently. The gallery’s monthly art walk, which is always held on the first Friday of the month, just happened to fall on April 1st and Easter was the theme. Antique eggs, jelly beans, edible decorated eggs, spring flowers and bunny baskets were the décor of the evening.
Fingers were crossed wondering how many guests would arrive since the season is closing and car carriers taking snowbird’s vehicles north are an everyday sight on the island. But art lovers did not disappoint and attendance was high with both new and repeat visitors.
The Local Color Art Gallery will also be celebrating one year in business since opening last April. Malenda Trick’s gallery,

Tom Curtis and wife Deborah pose in front of his colorful photography.
The galleries boast nine local artists. Artwork of many different styles and mediums fill three rooms. Photography, oils, encaustic, mixed media, fiber art, jewelry, watercolor and found object assemblages abound. Malenda’s two-room gallery located just next door is filled with a huge variety of original art, prints and commission pieces that vary in subject, style and technique. Malenda also holds classes on Thursday evenings that include a dinner and fabulous libations. Yum.
May’s First Friday event will fall on Friday, May 6th from 5-7 PM – always fun so mark your calendar. Like us on Facebook to keep current with happenings.
