Art League Recruits Additional Board Members
The Art League Marco Island’s Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to their Board of Directors; David Caruso and John Dougherty. They will play an instrumental role in the execution of the League’s new business model currently under development for implementation in October, 2010.
Both gentlemen are no strangers to community service. Caruso, a financial advisor and Vice President with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, relocated to Marco Island in 2005. He was appointed to the Planning Board in 2006 for a two year term and reappointed in 2009. He is past Vice President of the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts and a past Board Member of the Marco Police Foundation. Currently, in addition to accepting this appointment, he serves on the Board of Directors at the Marco Island Yacht Club. Caruso is a member of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce and a 2006 “graduate” of the Leadership Marco program.
Dougherty is Vice President of Olshan Hotels; owners and operators of hotels in the Eastern United States, including the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort & Spa. He served as Past President of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce from 1990 – 1991 and as a Member of the City of Marco Island Beach Advisory Committee 1999 – 2003. His community outreach also includes serving on the Board of Directors for Marco Island Hospital (a division of Naples Community Hospital) 1990-1996; Marco Island YMCA1995-1998 and 2006-2007; and as Chairman of San Marco Catholic Church Finance Committee 2007 and 2008. He was a selected participant in Leadership Collier for 1989-1990 and served as a member of the Collier County Tourist Development Council1995-2000 as well as a member in good standing Cornell Hotel Society.
Keith Klipstein Resigns
Effective March 27, 2010 Keith Klipstein resigned as the President of the Art League’s Board of Directors and from the Board after 4 years of service. Klipstein began his service as a Director, and served as the Vice President and Treasurer prior to his election as President in 2008. Klipstein, a recently designated Realtor with Keller Williams, has made this difficult decision to step down as he is unable to continue his dedication to the Art League and his Presidency to his satisfaction while also developing his new business ambitions. As he leaves the Board he continues his support of the arts in our community and is committed to making Marco Island an arts destination.
Kilpstein’s parting note to the Board and membership reads: “Thank you for the privilege of serving you… and a special thank you to Christine Neal for her strong leadership, wisdom and her rock solid positive view of the world. Chris, you are amazing! Godspeed”
At this time, Nancy Carrington, Marco Island Florist business owner and active member in the community, has accepted the position as Interim President. Carrington was elected to the Board of Directors in 2007 and has served as Secretary for the past 2 years.
