The Marco Island Public Library and the Marco Island Center for the Arts work cooperatively to provide monthly art shows at the Marco Island Library branch on Heathwood Drive. The month of May will feature the work of Marco Island artist Karen Swanker.

Inspired by the impressionists, Karen’s water lily paintings evoke a peaceful and quiet calm. By using a glazing technique with transparent washes, the water has both depth and reflective qualities. The lily pads appear to float serenely atop the water, with lotus flowers in various stages of bloom breaking the surface. Colors range from liquid blues and greens to warm pinks and oranges.

All displayed paintings are for sale, with a percentage going to the Marco Island Center for the Arts. Interested buyers can pick up a business card at the library or the Center for the Arts and contact the artist directly with any questions.
