The City of Marco Island held a ceremony in honor the 139th Anniversary of Arbor Day. A tree was planted at Veterans’ Community Park and another at Tract C and D. The Beautification Committee chair, Syd Mellinger along with vice-chair Alan Brown and Sandi Johnson helped with the symbolic planting. Bryan Milk, Director of Parks and Recreation, welcomed the committee members present, as well as Jim Riviere, City Manager and councilmen Joe Batte, Jerry Gibson and Wayne Waldack. Councilman Gibson read a Proclamation from the City. The tree planted at Veterans’ Community Park was a Shady Lady and a flowering Florida Cassia was planted at Tract C and D (across from the Winterberry ball field). The trees were supplied by O’Donnell Landscape of Estero. Bryan explained several trees have been planted around the park as a result of the Trees R Cool committee which applied for and received a grant in the amount of $18,200.00. The City of Marco Island is certified as a part of Tree City USA.
