Marco Island Meals of Hope’s next “Happy Hour for Hope” will be Monday, April 24, 2017 on the Marco Island Princess from 5 to 7 PM. The Marco Island Princess is docked at 951 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island and will not leave port during this event.
Bill “Captain Happy Hope” Morris had lots of praise for this month’s venue. “Robin Shifflett and Captain Rodger Parcelles go out of their way to make this is a great event. The food is wonderful, we are on the water and the folks on the boat make everyone welcome.”
Happy Hours for Hope are fundraisers for Marco Island’s Meals of Hope. The $10 admission fee helps the organization buy food for its packaging event in November. Happy Hours for Hope raise about $15,000 each year. The packaging event in November has a budget of $50,000 Morris explained, “These events are a big part of our funding, but we also need support from donors. This year twelve individuals and businesses donated a minimum of $500 to become Friends of Hope. We still need over $10,000 in donations.”
Marco Meals of Hope is a joint effort of Kiwanis, Noontime Rotary and Sunrise Rotary Clubs. It is a hands-on approach to combating hunger in our community. Volunteers work year round raising funds for the packaging event at Marco Island Charter Middle School. Last year, volunteers packed over 250,000 meals for distribution through the Meals of Hope distribution network. Organizers hope to do equal that number at the packaging event on November 18, 2017.
Admission is $10 and everyone is invited. For information, contact Bill “Captain Hope” Morris at 239-642-6020.
