Not only will this change give us a chance to showcase new and different farms, but it will also provide a chance to add a fish house to our tour. The seafood industry is a vibrant part of our coastal community but we don’t often get a chance to see behind-the-scenes. Other stops include a tomato farm, a citrus grove and an ornament nursery. (Tour stops are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances)
Farmers/managers will host the group at each stop and answer questions about their operations. Knowledgeable local tour guides will accompany the tour through the day to provide additional context, scope and information.
The cost of the tour is $60, including bus transportation and a farm-to-table lunch at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. There is limited space on the buses, so register early. To register, visit collieragtour2017.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact Vanessa Bielema or Paula Springs at (239) 252-4800.
