Adopt-A-Senior Pet

As November is Adopt-A-Senior Pet Month, Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) is focusing on our senior pets. DAS will allow people to adopt a cat or dog for $5 in the month of November for those animals in our kennels over six years old.

Typically, senior pets are more difficult to adopt because of certain misconceptions about older pets. People often overlook the fact that surrendered pets sometimes have nothing to do with the animals themselves, but are a reflection of the hard times a pet owner might be facing. The next time you are in the shelter, say hello to the gentle graying dog, spend some time with the seasoned calico cat and you will see the benefits of owning a senior pet.

The $5 adoption fee includes sterilization surgery, vaccinations, pet license, ID microchip and 30 days of pet health insurance. That is a value of more than $400.

For more information on responsible pet ownership, visit www.collierpets.com, stop by the shelter at 7610 Davis Blvd., Naples, or call 239-252-PETS (7387). For media inquiries, please call Public Information Coordinator Daniel Christenbury at 239-252-6956.
