The American Cancer Society held its second annual Luau Party benefitting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. It was a chance for everyone to pull out any Hawaiian0style shirts, skirts and dresses from the darkest corners of their closets. There was laughter and applause while everyone rated their favorite Hawaiian shirt or tested their ability to see how low they could go doing the Limbo.
A scrumptious dinner buffet was served, including whole pineapple ham, blackened mahi-mahi, pan-roasted chicken, stir fry veggies, sweet plantains, saffron rice and black beans, along with three dessert selections. Afterdinner entertainment was provided by JoeRey and Heidi.
The evening was topped off with a 50/50 winner and silent auction of about a dozen items, including restaurant gift certificates, two nights at the Hilton, an oriental rug, a basket of liquor and more.
The “luau” was created by Monte Lazarus as a casual event for the American Cancer Society, appealing to year-round residents and early fall snowbirds. A fun event not to be missed! The luau was sponsored by the Marco Island Marriott Resort Golf and Spa and Hammock Bay Country Club, First Integrity Bank, Wavv 101.1 FM and Coastal Breeze News.
