ACS Imagination Ball Will Hug Away Cancer

By Maureen Chodaba

A hug is a loving squeeze, a bestowal of hope, and an embrace of comfort and healing. Whether we give that hug or receive it, the gift remains the same. A hug is living proof of the power of touch.

Close your eyes and travel back in time to the days of childhood. Imagine a hug with your favorite teddy bear. Just a hug could dry your tears and chase away your greatest fear, even if that fear was a monster.

The Marco Island office of the American Cancer Society invites you to the 2017 Imagination Ball, “Glitz, Glamour & Giving,” on Saturday, February 4 at 6 PM at the JW Marriott Beach Pavilion. Presented by BMO Private Bank, this evening of splendor and elegance will offer many opportunities to fight back against cancer. Imagine joining in that fight by giving a hug.

Cancer is a monster to everyone, but especially to a child. Adorable, plush, huggable teddy bears are available for adoption by you for $100. Your adopted teddy bear, along with a note with your personal message of healing, will be delivered to a child in a local hospital. Imagine that child hugging their very own teddy bear. Imagine the message of hope, the power of touch and the gift of healing.

John R. Wood Properties is the stuffed animal sponsor for the 2017 Imagination Ball. The proceeds from the bears will be donated by the American Cancer Society to a general fund for cancer research, services, support and treatment.

The Imagination Ball will offer additional ways to fight back against this dreadful disease. The event will feature a silent auction with online mobile bidding and a live auction by professional auctioneer Rick Gallo. The gala event, emceed by NBC’s Stacey Deffenbaugh, will feature fine food by JW Marriott, music by the Stacey Allison Band and a special video tribute to Dick Shanahan, the event’s co-chair who passed away from complications of stage 4 hepatobiliary cancer in October 2016.

Imagine a world without cancer. To purchase tickets for the event, adopt a bear, or make a donation specifically dedicated to research in memory of Dick Shanahan, please visit www.acsimaginationball.com or call your American Cancer Society at 239-642-8800.
