Academy makes changes

In its inaugural year, Marco Island Academy Charter High School is continuing to add excellent staff to its education and athletic departments.

After an abrupt resignation by Science teacher, Dr. Michael Doherty, a joint effort by both Laurie Havemeir and Stacey Faremouth has continued the curriculum where the former Science teacher had ended. MIACHS is pleased to announce the new hire of a permanent Science teacher. Certified Science teacher, Linda Kropp
will take over Science classes on Monday, March 26th. Ms. Kropp, who also works at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve, utilizes a “hands on” approach to her teaching. She has already been observing current classes in order to make a smooth transition.

A Certified Music Teacher has also recently been hired on to the MIACHS teaching staff. Melissa Neitzel will begin teaching April 9th. Often a program that is tossed aside due to lack of funding, MIACHS is excited to have such an active music program.

By way of athletics, the MIACHS Rays volleyball team will be coached by Kelly Monnot next year. Monnot will also be teaching Physical Education beginning in the Fall. “Kelly comes to Marco Island with an impressive resume. She holds a Master’s of Science in Sports Administration and a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY,” explains Principal, George Andreozzi. “She has taught in the Lee County School System and was a graduate assistant in Athletic Operations at Eastern Kentucky. She was the Head Junior Varsity Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach last season at Seacrest Country Day School in Naples. She is a head coach in club volleyball (2008-present) at USA South Volleyball Club in Estero. USA South is one of the premier volleyball clubs in Florida. MIACHS is looking forward to her involvement in our school.”

Meanwhile, current P.E. teacher, Amber Prange, will step into a more prominent role in the academics program at MIACHS. She will also continue her role as Head Girls Basketball Coach.

These changes accompany many other new and exciting plans for Marco Island Academy Charter High School as it continues to grow.
