Prior to the submission, the Academy hired a highly qualified consultant, Vickie Marble, who contributed her expertise and thoroughly reviewed the application. She is an expert in creating new Charter Schools. She is currently the Principal of the Student Leadership Academy inVenice, FL. She graduated from the University of South Florida and has attended both Fordham and Columbia University in NY. She is a founding board member of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools and served for seven years as a Governor’s appointee to theFlorida Charter School Review Panel. She was the Director of Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships for the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools until taking a position as the Regional Resource Specialist for the National Cooperative Bank Development Corporationproviding technical assistance in the area of finance and facilities for Florida and Georgia’s charter schools; and working in concert with the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools. She is one of the facilitators in the area of Finance for the mandatory training for New Applicants of Charter Schools, of which 2 of the Academy’s Board members attended this year.
In her opinion, she believes the Marco Island Academy is one of the most comprehensive and best applications that she has ever seen during her 14 years of experience with Charter Schools in the State of Florida. She thinks that it should be approved at the District level because it meets the criteria required by the Florida Model Charter School application. The Marco Island Academy, Board of Directors believes that the application meets all the criteria of law and the District’s responses are not based on competent substantial evidence. The Marco Island Academy is fully prepared to appeal this decision at the State level if necessary.
