The Marco Island Historical Society is sponsoring a field trip on Saturday, March 13, 2010, to the Rendell Research Center on Pine Island. This will be a full day of demonstrations, exhibits and hands-on activities presented by the Florida Museum of Natural History. The keynote speaker will be George Burgess, an internationally known shark and sawfish expert. Admission is $5. We will be celebrating the fifth observance of the Calusa Heritage Day.
We will carpool from the Publix at Elkcam Circle and Collier Blvd. At 9 a.m. and lunch will be at 11 a.m. at the Tarpon Lodge located across the street from the Center. This is a historic 1926 lodge, which serves outstanding food. The cost is $18 which includes tax, tip and non-alcoholic beverage. Menu choices include salad with grilled chicken, fish of the day and turkey wrap with soup.
