Who says Marco Island is quiet in the summer months? Certainly not anyone who was at the recent Christmas in July Karaoke fundraiser at The SpeakEasy! Organized by Keller Williams, the event was rocking with karaoke tunes sung by many Marco Island residents and visitors. Funds raised will be donated to Christmas Island Style, the nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to bringing many cherished holiday festivities to the island. One of these festivities is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Veterans Community Park. The 34-foot tree needs to be replaced this year, and it will take $50,000 to do so.
The SpeakEasy was the perfect setting for this lively evening. Tucked away in a cozy spot on the water, the restaurant offers delicious food and fabulous entertainment. Christmas in July proved that sometimes the best entertainment is that which ispersonally provided by your own friends and neighbors, especially when they are dressed in holiday garb in the middle of summer!
Renowned entertainer Johnny Fusco manned the karaoke system, encouraging all in attendance to participate.
Susan Costa got the show going with her rendition of “Santa Baby.” Marco Island’s own Rose Kraemer, known to her many fans as Rosetta Stone, sang a medley of
Christmas tunes, while Dave Gardner,
Patrick Thawley, Perry Baptiste and Gene Burson did some crooning of their own at the mike. Karaoke regular Mitch Weller sang several songs throughout the evening, including a look back to that “long, long time ago” with Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Nathan DaSilva from Massachusetts sang his heart out in honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of his grandparents, John and Andrea Sargent. Mary Kay beauty specialist Tammy Miloro rocked the dance floorto what could very well be her theme song, “Pink Cadillac.” The energy was hot as Rose Kraemer ignited the crowd with her version of Pitbull’s “Fireball.”
A 50-50 raffle doubled the fun and funds! Barbara Dasti was the lucky winner. She generously donated her winnings back to Christmas Island Style.
Perry Baptiste’s rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” was a reminder of what Christmas Island Style is all about. It’s all about the warmth and joy of the holiday season; reaching out, touching you and touching me with the generous loving spirit of Marco Island. Until I first experienced Christmas Island Style, good times never seemed so good!
