The Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron (MISPS) is off to a very busy 2018.

True to our primary mission to make boating safer through education, we have produced a full schedule of courses and seminars. Already underway is our America’s Boating Course, which qualifies graduates for the Florida Safe Boating Certificate.

We are also conducting nine session courses in Marine Electrical Systems, Piloting and Seamanship as well as two-hour seminars on anchoring, partner in command and charting/GPS.

Details can be found in our ads, which appear in this paper, as well as our website: www.marcoislandsailandpowersquadron.org.

The annual Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party is always well-attended.

The annual Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party is always well-attended.

Our annual fundraiser, the Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at San Marco Catholic Church Parish Hall from 5 to 7:30 PM. This event combines fun, food, wine and beer, raffles, silent auctions and 50/50 drawings, and has been a crowd favorite for several years. The food is delicious, the raffle prizes and silent auction items are donated by local merchants and professionals, and the atmosphere is collegial and festive.

Some highlights to this year’s silent auction selections are a collector’s edition, original Ferrari men’s watch; four clubhouse box seats plus free parking to a Miami Marlins regular season baseball game; a Penn rod and reel combo; a two-night stay at the JW Marriott on Marco Island; a three month season membership to the Marco Island Yacht Club; a full mouth whitening program from local dentist, Dr. Schulze, Island Tower Dentistry; a Hinkley chandelier; and four top end Kilcher ceiling fans, plus numerous other interesting items.

There will be about 30 raffle drawings along with the 50/50 drawing. And, there is a $250 door prize.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by contacting Tippy at 239-248-5815 or tippchgc@aol.com.

This is the only fundraiser for the Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron, and the funds help us continue our active and ambitious program of promoting boating safety through education and civic engagement. Please attend and support your local power squadron!
