Leadership Marco and the MI Chamber of Commerce fed the masses with the 7th Annual Souper Bowl event this weekend at Mackle Park. This “super filling event” showcases soup creations from nine local restaurants: CJ’s on the Bay, Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa, Island Country Club, Quinn’s on the Beach (JW Marriott), Mango’s Dockside Bistro, Petit Soleil, Philly Grille, The Speakeasy and Stonewall’s.
Souper Bowl begins months prior to the event at Mackle Park. This year, more than a thousand ceramic bowls were hand painted by students at Lely High School, Marco Island Academy, Marco Island Charter Middle School, and through Marco Island Parks and Recreation. Several local artists also contributed their hand painted bowls which were auctioned the day of the Souper Bowl.
Thanks to generous sponsors, the funds from this year’s event are estimated to be around $20,000. Funds from this popular event supports the Chamber’s scholarship program for area students. Sponsors included the Clay Guild, Marco Island Center for the Arts, Dr. Rick Siegel, Marco Island Parks and Recreation, Affordable Landscaping, Kiwanis Club, Mutual of Omaha, NCH, Physicians Regional Healthcare, Sunshine Booksellers and Coastal Breeze News.
