The 33rd Annual Easter Sunrise Service on the Beach will not be held this year.
Beginning over 30 years ago with 240 people, the Marco Island Easter Sunrise Service is now the largest, one-hour event on the island with the 2019 attendance estimated at 10,000. In the past, the Easter sunrise service has been held on Marco’s beautiful six-mile crescent beach, thanks to the generosity of the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort, the Madeira Condominium Association, and many community volunteers. In the future, there is every confidence that all of us will get back to the beach.
In the meantime, this year we have an exciting alternative. A new website has been created to provide all of us a rich and fulfilling Easter experience. MarcoIslandEasterSunrise.com has plenty for those who want an online experience or those who want to attend services in person.
Previously, there have been numerous local pastors helping to officiate the beach service, musical guests, and an Easter message. Now, online will include video greetings by local pastors, a brief Easter message, and Sandra McCracken music videos.
Additionally, with the cooperation of our local churches, the website will feature the individual church times for their in-person services along with a link to their website.
“During a pandemic, we have all learned to make adjustments in our lives and our much-loved Easter sunrise on the beach is no different,” says Marco Church Pastor, Scott Kerens. “But what does remain is the true and very real meaning of Easter, and we invite all of you to rejoice in Christ’s gift to us.” Kerens 12-minute message can also be heard at 7:00 AM on 98.1 FM at Marco and 90.3 FM at Everglades City.
