The second annual Spirit of Marco Island awards and gala dinner, held by the Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island, was a success. Approximately 150 people enjoyed an evening with dinner, silent auction and awards ceremony.

Recipients were nominated by their fellow Marco Islanders in recognition of their efforts. The 2010 Spirit of Marco Island awards were presented to Joe Granda, Hideaway Beach Association, Stan and Donna Niemczyk, Linda and Alan Sandlin and Steve Stefanides. Each recipient was heralded for their contribution and service to our community.

Auction items ranged from fine wine and dinners to jewelry, fishing trips, Yamaha electric piano, to art pieces and certificates from a variety of local service companies. Live auction items included a sunset cruise aboard the Ramblin’ Rose and a private, gourmet dinner for 10 prepared by Chef Bob Alewyn. The dinner auction was so popular, in the end it was decided to make two dinners available. Al Diaz masterfully emceed the event and was assisted by ‘auctioneer’ Ian Small. Councilman Larry Magel won the 50/50 which he immediately donated back to Rotary. The event was held at the San Marco Catholic Church Hall and catered by Teapot Catering. The Noontime Rotary Club of Marco Island raised almost $11,000 during the evening with proceeds going to support their local charitable giving.
