At this year’s Police & Fire Youth Camp on Marco Island, campers spent a week learning about our first responders and participating in survival and search and rescue exercises.
Community Scene: Fight Against Hunger
Olshan Properties, owners of the Marco Island Hilton Beach Resort and Spa, kicked-off Olshan Outreach, an employee-driven program including a paid day of service to assist community not-for-profit causes. This year, Olshan Outreach supports the Fight Against Hunger.

Least Terns on the north end of Tigertail Beach are producing eggs already. This protected habitat is a critical nesting area for these South American visitors.

At the June luncheon for Just Friends, Kerri Lampos, owner of Revival Yoga and Fitness on Marco Island, spoke about yoga and mindfulness. Four birthday ladies received roses.

While vacationing with her family, Michaela Canning from Cranston, Rhode Island, found a junonia shell on Keewaydin Island. The elusive junonia shell is a rare find, and is highly sought-after by serious shellers.

Glades Golf and Country Club recently held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the updates to the course completed as part of its re-grassing project.
Community Scene: Freedom Waters at Tigertail
Recently a group of sight-impaired youth at Tigertail Beach enjoyed spending the day paddleboarding. Freedom Waters Foundation brings therapeutic marine experiences to those with special needs.

Community Scene: Beach Clean-up
At the recent Beach Clean-up, sponsor, the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce, got very “hands-on,” collecting trash and separating the recyclable plastics. Bottle caps, plastic straws and cigarette butts were bagged and labeled so that the Beach and Coastal Resources Advisory Committee may record data.
