New officers were installed at the formal and festive event that was held in the beautiful Harbor Dining Room. The time honored installation ceremony, Change of Watch, is a solemn naval tradition in which responsibility, authority and accountability are transferred from one person to a to another. By Coastal Breeze News Staff The Marco Bay Yacht Club held its 40th Annual Change of Watch on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Hideaway Beach Club. The Outgoing Commodore, Marcia Orsolini, introduced guests of honor, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 95, Civil Air Patrol, and Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron. After thanking the club for her year, she passed the gavel to the 2014 Commodore, Charlie Skillern. Submitted The Marco Island Yacht Club will hold its Commodore’s Ball and Change of Watch this Saturday, Jan. 25. It is an event the entire island anticipates every year. The yacht club is the first thing visitors and residents see as they come onto the island over the Jolley Bridge. Regular flag ceremonies and the cannon’s roar draw crowds of spectators to see the Officers in uniform on those nights at sunset. Safety first for the Marco Island Sailing Regatta

Submitted The USCG Auxiliary has many responsibilities including boating education, vessel safety checks, environmental protection, but one of the most important is promoting boating safety. So when the Marco Island Yacht Club asked the USCG Auxiliary to conduct a safety patrol for their annual sailing regatta in front of Residence Beach, Flotilla 95 was happy to be of service. The Marco Island Yacht Club’s annual sailing regatta has multiple race-courses and multiple categories of sail boats, including fast multi-hulls and cruisers. Eleven years after the first event, the Marco Island Yacht Club Fleet is still sailing on to an ever growing event. One hundred and sixty sailors and observers descended on the Marco Island Yacht Club, Saturday February 23, 2013. This annual event is greatly anticipated by the community and the entire Yacht Club membership as the fleet presents itself to the New Year’s Commodore and Bridge Officers. She and her husband, Vince, moved to Marco Island in August of 1966, just a little over a year and a half after the official grand opening of the Island on January 31, 1965.
