2015 Galmour Puss Calendar on Sale Now

Submitted Milo, a stunning young grey and white cat, won the judge’s vote to be the new cover photo for the 2015 Glamour Puss Fundraising Calendar benefitting For the Love of Cats. Milo’s photo was one of more than 125 photos entered into the online photo contest this spring. Judging was done by a panel appointed by Jan Rich, president of For the Love of Cats. Marco Island City Manager Roger Hernstadt and the City Council are betting this was not an anomaly. “This year, the Legislature had extra money and went on a buying spree,” explained Hernstatd. “(Marco Island) was not in the game. By Coastal Breeze News Staff The journey to a completed Veterans’ Park has been seven years in the making so far, from the initial proposal by the local VFW Post to completion of the first phase: a series of flags, benches and paving stones. An ambitious plan for a new Veterans’ Memorial Fountain and Flag Plaza for Veteran’s Park got the green light at the December 20 city council meeting. Marco Island’s Big Flag Fly’s Again

  At the City Council meeting today, following Councils approval of Phase II construction plans to enhance Veteran’s Park, Big Flag Committee Chairman, Dave Rice announced to the audience that in honor of the veteran’s at today’s meeting that the Big Flag at the Jolley Bridge is again flying. The race returns for another year, taking participants up and over the Jolley Bridge and back again. Marco Re-enactors sponsor Historical Tours

Beginning this November, the program is being expanded to offer historical tours of Marco Island. Fire Rescue Training

Members of the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department maneuvered the city’s #50 fire truck through a number of practice tests. Pierce Manufacturing, makers of the fire truck, came out for an “All Wheel Steering Training” course, provided by the company. With safety at its forefront, the company not only manufactures fire trucks and equipment but also provides proper training for their use all over the country. Marco Island Seafood Festival Extends Format

By Dianna Dohm For the fourth consecutive year, the two Rotary Clubs and the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island have worked together on a very successful joint venture. The Marco Island Seafood Festival is the island’s single largest community event. This year the event will be held Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday, March 25, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Veterans Park in the center of Marco Island. International amateur boxing show

By Vincent Giannone The first of hopefully, many International Amateur Boxing Shows was held Saturday, November 12th, at Veterans Park on Elkcam Circle. The show was put together by longtime Marco resident, Richie Stoltenberg, in order to bring together Team New Jersey and Team Ireland for a battle royale that the residents of Marco were able to enjoy for a one time entry fee. The fee was donated to this non-profit group’s charity.
