YMCA bids farewell to tennis director

By Natalie Strom [email protected] On Thursday, May 10, the YMCA held a farewell party for its Tennis Center Director, Paul Barrus. Over fifty members of the Y gathered on the pavilion to thank Barrus and wish him the best of luck in his new position at Sterling Oaks in Naples. Cindy Love, C.E.O. of the Marco Island YMCA thanked Paul for his services, saying, “I just like who you are. Your ethics and values are amazing. Marco Y hosts Summer Swing III

By Jim Curran Thursday, September 15th tennis players from all over the island gathered at the YMCA for phase III of the first ever summer season intra-island tennis club social. This was the third location visited in this program that involves four of Marco Island’s most popular tennis clubs. Those already visited were the Island Country Club and Hideaway Beach Club. The YMCA hosted this one, and the Racquet Center recently hosted the final chapter in this series. Dave Elliott, Radio Host of WGUF 98.9FM, Master of Ceremony, welcomed the guests to the beautifully appointed Palms Ballroom of the Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa. The Posting of Colors was presented by the North Naples Fire Department Color Guard. The Star Spangled Banner was performed by Mariel Sanchez, a student at Marco Island Academy. Rev. Summer Swing

By Jim Curran  The Island Country Club hosts part two of “summer swing” intra-island tennis social series ~ another rousing success! On a sunny Friday morning, August 19, the Island Country Club courts were packed with players from the four major tennis facilities on the island. Over 40 players took part in the second phase of this newly organized summer tennis social series that includes the Island Country Club, the Hideaway Beach Club, the Racquet Center and the YMCA Tennis Center.
