TO THE EDITOR: The 14th Southwest Florida Soapfest has come and gone, and each year we thank over 100 individuals and organizations who donate to this wonderful cause – whether it be their talent, time, money, food, gift certificates, housing, vehicles, etc. This event really could not happen without the generosity we receive over the months leading up to the event and during the event. PEDAL IN PARADISE By Matt Walthour Leave it to the residents of Marco Island to see a neighbor in need and immediately respond! When Steve Zandy’s bike was stolen, Karen Nettles reached out to Steve Stefanides from Christmas Island Style and Tiffany Homuth of Mutual of Omaha Bank. They’ve set up a fund to replace his stolen bike. The group has pledges for half the replacement cost at deadline for this paper. The following was a notice about the loss of Steve Zandy’s custom-made bike. Before Coastal Breeze News had a chance to print the article, or even upload it online, several islanders banded together to start a drive to replace Steve’s bike in the likely event it isn’t found. Contractors meet with City Manager

By Coastal Breeze News Staff An overflow group of Marco Islanders attended a meeting on May 29th called by City Manager Jim Riviere to discuss the proposed “outsourcing” permitting functions to Collier County. Mr. Riviere led off the meeting by stating that city and county representatives had held talks about “shared services”. The goal was to avoid duplication and save money. City council Chairman Larry Magel and members Jerry Gibson and Wayne Waldack attended the meeting but did not comment.
