The Collier County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applications for positions on several advisory committees. The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee currently has four vacancies representing the following: Employers in Local Jurisdiction (Term expires on October 1, 2014); Resident within Local Governing Body (Term expires November 18, 2015); Labor Actively Engaged in Home Building (Term expires October 1, 2015); and Alternate Member. One of the above must be a resident of Immokalee. DAS Receives a $5,000 Donation to Fund “The Families for Felines Project”

Collier County Domestic Animal Services volunteer Bob MacKenzie simply loves shelter cats. Bob spends his time at the shelter taking pictures of homeless cats to promote their adoptions. Bob’s devotion to the cats served as a catalyst for a large donation with the purpose of placing homeless cats with loving families. The generous donor, Lesley Brown Robert, donated $5,000 to underwrite adoptions for adult cats that have been available for some time, but not yet adopted. “Cats generally have a more difficult time getting adopted than dogs,” DAS Director Amanda Townsend says. “We hope a little financial break will help ... DAS IMPOUNDS 49 DOGS

Collier County Domestic Animal Services impounded 49 dogs today surrendered by a local breeder because of a foreclosure proceeding on his property resulting in an eviction. The 20 adult dogs and 29 puppies are all golden retrievers and Labradors. Humane Society Naples is accepting four mothers with litters and five puppies – a total of 33 dogs. The balance of the adult dogs (16 in all) will be housed at DAS’s Immokalee shelter facility, pending a full health assessment.
