A delegation from Civil Air Patrol will ring the opening bell Friday at the New York Stock Exchange. Led by CAP National Commander Maj. Gen. Chuck Carr, a group of about 20 CAP representatives, including cadets, will be on the stock exchange podium at 9:30 a.m. EST to officially start trading. Civil Air Patrol celebrates 70 years of service
This week marked the 70th anniversary of the founding by Congress of the Civil Air Patrol. Seventy years ago civilian pilots from across the country signed up to perform their own homeland security in the air. Civil Air Patrol began on December 1, 1941 and it quickly became involved in combat operations off the Atlantic and Gulf Coast. After signing up, these pilots and crews went east to one of the Coastal Patrol Bases to perform a very hazardous form of flying. A new novel, titled A Time for Patriots, is the latest book in the current series based on Dale Brown’s main character Air Force Lt Gen Patrick McLanahan. Now retired, he and his cadet son are active participants in the fictitious Battle Mountain Nevada Civil Air Patrol Squadron. While the fictional Squadron is involved in a search-and-rescue (SAR) mission for a crashed light aircraft, a terrorist group flies an aircraft containing radioactive material into the Reno Nevada Federal Building.
